SKATE LEAGUE

The Refuge puts on a full season of Skate League each year. Our skate league will build a love for skateboarding with families that have had little-to-no experience with the sport, as well as provide an opportunity to be challeged for those who have skated for a long time. We emphasize breaking down the basics, developing your own style, and encouragement through the whole process. You will be able to walk away from this league with more skills under your belt while growing in friendship with others learning alongside you.

COMPETITIVE LEAGUE

(intermediate)

WHAT IS SKATE LEAGUE?

  • Contestants join a team at the beginning of the season with whom they will practice and compete with against other teams of skaters. You can request signup for a specific coach or time slot for practices or teammates, though we can’t guarantee every request.
  • During games, teams will alternate players taking runs.  During a run, each player will score as many points for their team as they can, with each run they take. The team with the highest score at the end wins.
  • Every contestant will have 3 runs – a 1-minute “street run” utilizing non-halfpipe features; a 1-minute “halfpipe-only” run; and a “best trick” run with 3 attempts.
  • In the “best trick” run, you can opt to try a different trick after one or two attempts, but if any points were earned by landing one of those attempts, they are forfeited on behalf of the new trick.

FOR PARENTS & SPECTATORS

A QUICK GUIDE

BE A POSITIVE PRESENCE.

As spectators at a youth basketball, football, or soccer game, we want to be positive influences for our kids.  That means for all kids, teams, and coaches alike.  Cheering is encouraged!

RESPECT THE BOUNDARIES OF THE PARK.

Remain outside of the skatepark boundaries, except when your child is taking their turn.  If they’re up, feel free to enter the skatepark to take any pictures or videos of them.

BE FLEXIBLE WITH TIMING.

Some games/practices have gone long or started later because of unexpected delays.  We ask that you’re flexible with us as we try to keep everything as on schedule as possible.  This means arriving on-time/early to help us keep things on track each night!

REGARDING SCORING...

We have done extensive development of this game, but no one in the country is doing this. We are breaking new ground, and as such, we are guaranteed to have some flaws. We will tirelessly work on these to make this the best possible team & skateboarding experience your family will get to have.
